    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. David and Michael Graybill. Could these be one person named David Michael Graybill? Two good sources are in opposition as to these two names. David's tombstone appears in the Graybill-Stoker Cemetery in Garner Township, Pottawattamie, Iowa. Michael does not appear to have one; however, many tombstones are in pieces and bad repair from lack of upkeep. David's stone reads "Graybill, David. s/o L. & P. Graybill, d. 8 Nov 1857, 2y. 7m 9d." (Source: The Winter Quarters Project website http://winterquarters.byu.edu/pages/townships.aspx accessed 26 May 2013.) This would give David a birth date of 30 Mar 1855. On the other hand we have the 1856 census for Levi's family showing the following with no David but with Michael, age 1, shown:
      1856 Iowa: (From Ancestry.com) Macedonia, Pottawattamie, Iowa, p. 2 of 4:
Levi Grabill, 38, 10 years in Iowa, OH, farmer.
      Patience, 31, 10, IN.
      Abbigail, 14, 10, IL.
      Selatha, 9, 9, IL.
      Patience, 7, 7, IL.
      Levi, 5, 5, IL.
      John, 3, 3, IL.
      Michael, 1, 1, IL.
Neither David nor Michael show in the 1860 census, which has led to a listing for a son Michael b. about 1855 d. bef 1860. David in various family trees has often showed with contrived dates of being born in the early to mid-1840s, but the source of the gravestone has not been seen by many and would lead to unknowing speculation.
There seems to be a good case for David and Michael perhaps being one and the same person, but additional corroboration would be help.
One patron entered yet another person named Sidney Graybill (twin) b. 27 Jan 1855 and d. 9 Feb 1855 both in Kane Township, Pottawattamie, Iowa. There is of course a discrepancy on the birth date of this person and David who was b. 30 Mar 1855 if his gravestone is correct, but they may in fact be twins and David Michael would be the second twin.
