1. Email from Roy L. Hales dated 31 Jan 2016 where he found a Stephen Doe who could be the father, uncle, or brother of our Nicholas Doe. If he were the father, the naming pattern of Nicholas Doe's sons would seem to place a son Stephen earlier in known order of children:
"I found a real estate transaction in which Stephen Doe purchased a house and lands in Hucking & Hollingbourne 1551/52. He could be the father of our Nicholas. The transaction:
"6. Q: Steph Doe. D: Th Wynfild & wife Aveline; Walt Saunder & wife Joan. 1 mess, 40a past 8a wood in Hollingbourne & Hucking. 40 marks."

A. Doe Possible Predecessors; Doo/Doe Families in the Lay subsidy of 1334:
-Richard Doo from the Hundred of Blackheath paid 11s 5d
-John Do from the Hundred of Blackheath paid 1s 4d
B. Generation One. Stephen Doe (Bef 1525? - aft 1552?) - Purchased a house, 40 a land, 40 a pasture, 8 acres wood in Hollingbourne & Hucking from (D) TH Wynfeld & wife Aveline; Walter Suander & wife Joan for 40 marks in 4 Edward VI (28 January 1551 - 27 Jan 1552). Given the following, I believe Stephen Doe is the father of our ancestor Nicholas Doe (bef 1537- bur 1601 Hucking):
-He is of the right age to be the father of our ancestor Nicholas Doe
-He purchased houses in Hucking and Hollingbourne, both parishes where our Nicholas lived.
-Our Nicholas also owned a house in Hucking, which could have been inherited.
-Our Nicholas named one of sons Stephen, and most families did name sons after their paternal grandparents.
[The Bredgar church records show a burial of Margaret Doe, widow of Steven, 29 Dec 1558 per Findmypast http://search.findmypast.com/record?id=gbprs%2fd%2f83055164 accessed 9 Feb 2016. She is called widow, so Steven must have already died. Hucking, Hollingbourne, and Bredgar are no more than 3 miles apart.]
