      1. 16 Oct 2005 Rootsweb.com Worldconnect database ":23708" of Jimmy Beavers notes the following information on Thomas Rutledge Holland which is unverifed by me thus far:
      Library of Congress F268.B53 1981 LH&G South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution Bible Records, Abraham Holland Family Bible, pgs 111 & 112. Thomas's parents did not leave Montgomery Co., MD until 1788. 1800 Laurens Co, SC pg. 24 10010-20010-01 Age 26-45 LDS Micro Fiche #6,049,359 #1 pg. 53 Purchased land in Laurens County, SC in 1803, DAR records. Will: Laurens Co, SC Vol 2 1825-1853 Sec F pg. 117. He is listed in the DAR as being born in Ireland. Militia duty as a private 1781-1782, born 2/12/1762 and died 11/3/1815.

      1810 US: Can't find in Laurens Co., South Carolina.

      1820 US: Laurens Co., South Carolina, Thomas is deceased by this time, p. 22 of 67:
      Jane Holland, males 0-1(10-16)-0-0-0-0; females 0-0-1(16-26)-0-1(45+); 7 slaves.

      1830 US: Laurens Co., South Carolina, p. 217, next door to Thomas (presumably her son):

      4. The publication "Laurens County Kinfolks Volume 1 Book 2," by Richard W. Fowler, gives the following family: "Jane Adair (d. of Joseph, gdau. of Joseph) was b. 30 May 1765, d. 25 Aug 1830 in Laurens Co., SC. She m. Thomas R. Holland, Sr., son of Abraham Holland (1715-1800) and Asenath Spires (7 Jun 1730-1802). Note: Holland Family Cemetery. Children:
      A. Sarah, b. abt 1793. She m. (1) John Leak. She m. (2) Coleman Carlyle.
      B. Asenath, b. 1795; d. 1 Feb 1823 in Laurens Co., SC, m. Samuel Copeland, son of John Copeland and Margaret Blakely. Note: Holland Family Cemetery.
      C. Casey, b. abt 1800; d. in Georgia. She m. John Bryan.
      D. Jane, b. 9 Sep 1803; d. 23 May 1832 in Laurens Co., SC. She m. Charles Blakely, son of Thomas Blakely and Margaret McGaffey. Note: Rocky Springs Pres. Church Cemetery.
      E. Thomas R., Jr., b. 16 Aug 1805; d. 23 Mar 1850. He m. Mary Leak, dau. of Jeremiah Leak and Elizabeth Chandler. [It also says he was a twin, but with whom is not stated.] Salem Cemetery.

      BIRTH:
      1. Date is provided by the tombstone. As of 16 Oct 2005, there are several sites at Worldconnect on Rootsweb.com that list this individual generally being born at Anne Arundel County, Maryland, to Abraham Holland and Azenath Spiers. Variations include Herring Creek in Anne Arundel County and also Frederick County in Maryland. Many of the same sites also note a middle name of Rutledge, especially since he and Jane Adair had a son also known as Thomas Rutledge Holland, Jr. Prior to this middle name, I was using the initial "R." as the middle name.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. Thomas and Jane Adair Holland are mentioned as a married couple in her father's will of 1795; however, the 1790 census shows a Thomas Holland listed in near proximity to the Adair and Holland families with one male and one female and no children. This would support a marriage before 1790.

      BURIAL:

Holland Cemetery is on the top of a steep bank on the right of the road 4 1/2 miles north of the center of Clinton in Laurens County, South Carolina. It is on Highway 56. Located near the top of the hill on the south side of Duncan's Creek. The highway cut in to the cemetery. Buried within are:
      HOLLAND, Thomas. Feb. 12, 1762 - Oct. 3, 1815. Note: Marker erected by John Bryan, son-in-law. Actual inscription: "Sacred to the memory of Thomas Holland born Feb 12, 1762 and departed this life Oct 3, 1815."
      HOLLAND, Jane. May 30, 1765 - Aug. 25, 1830. Note: Marker erected by John Bryan, son-in-law. Actual inscription: "Sacred to the memory of Jane Adair Holland born May 30, 1765 - and departed this life July 25, 1830."
      Relations also buried there include:
      a. Aseneth, consort of Samuel Copeland, and daughter of Thomas and Jane Holland, died Feb. 1, 1823, age 28 years.
      b. Elizabeth Adair, daughter of James and Delilah (Holland) Adair, June 17, 1810 - Oct. 17, 1822.
