- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. On file from Jeannie Aldredge, I have a 40 page Nancy Fountain White descendancy listing with research notes. I have cited all information concerning this specific individual into these notes.
2. Jeanie Aldredge believes that Maynard was Nancy's first husband. Her notes: children of Nancy White and Unknown Maynard are:
Lucy Maynard.
Nancy Maynard.
Mary Elizabeth Maynard, b. 1839, Tennessee; d. Abt. 1915, Iowa.
Robert Maynard, b. Abt. 1843.
Benjamin Maynard, b. Abt. 1845.
3. The following Maynards and counties/townships are listed in FHL book heads of household index for the 1852 Iowa census: C.G., Washington/Oregon; F., Johnson/Iowa City; James A., Johnson/Penn; James W., Henry/New London, L.D., Henry/Center; Nathan, Guthrie/Cass; Oliver, Clinton/Olive; Stephen, Johnson/Penn; William, Johnson/Iowa City. This is for info only and no known relationship has been established with any of these individuals.
4. Nancy White seemed to marry LDS men and was in Iowa at the earliest part of the LDS emigration through the area. It would seem logical that Maynard may be LDS. The only early references to Maynards I can find appear in Far West during the Missouri mob persecutions in the late 1830's which seems at odds with the children being born in Tennessee between at least 1839 and 1845 per information with their files separately within this database. The Missouri Maynard is named Silas Maynard and is mentioned in the book "Far West Record" as well as the "Mormon Redress Petitions." He also received his endowment in the Nauvoo temple but there is no record of a marriage sealing with anyone. He became RLDS per Susan Black's book. No references to him as noted above have much in the way of biographical information.
The book, "Mormon Redress Petitions," p. 286, has the following petition from Silas Maynard which deals with claims the Mormons petitioned the U.S. Congress for compensation of mob damage in Missouri circa 1837/1838. Could Silas possibly be the ___ Maynard to whom Nancy White was married? The redress petition:
"MayNARD, Silas
State of Missori Dr to Silas Maynard
For Loss of House & Lot in City Far West
" " " " in Caldwell County: $500.00
For Abuse for Self & Family: 150.00

For being made prisoner unlawfully and kept Confined four weeks: 100.00
For Moveing to the State Mo: 100.00
For being driven from the St. M thereby deprived the right of Citizenship Contrary to Law & Constitution of the U.S.: 500.00
[Total] $1,430.00
I do hereby Certify the Above to be a just and true accompt according to my Judgement
Silas Maynard

1. Daughter Mary lists his birthplace as Virginia in the 1880 US census.
