    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. The existence of an Elizabeth Graybill, daughter of John Peter Graybill and Christina Wampler, is speculative and not proven.
The source of Elizabeth seems to be the publication FHL book 929.273 P684pn: "Graybill/Stoker/Eller/Smith/Koons/Pitt Connections," by Norman E. 'Gene' Pitt, 1996, pp. 6-8 wherein is stated: "Elizabeth Graybill, b. 1798, Jefferson, Wilkes Co. (now Ashe), NC; d. aft 1880; md. abt 1819 to ___ Shaw. He was b. abt 1795. Their children (all born in NC) are Mary A., William, Thomas, John, Solomon, Alfred P., and Doctor."
The fact that these children belong to an Elizabeth Shaw in Ashe County is well established by the following four US Censuses:
      1850 US: Ashe County, North Carolina, p. 318B, 11 Nov 1850, dwelling 1170:
      Elizabeth Shaw, 65, NC.
      Mary, 30, NC.
      Thos, 21, NC, labour.
      John, 19, NC, labour.
      Soloman, 16, NC, labour.
      Alfred, 14, NC.
      D., 12, male, NC.
      Nancy, 3, NC.
      1860 US: Jefferson P.O., Ashe County, North Carolina, 20 Jun 1860, p. 327B, dwelling 284:
      Doctor Shaw, 21, farmer, NC.
      Solomon, 25, NC
      John, 30, NC.
      Elizabeth, 65, NC.
      1870 US: Oldfields, Ashe County, North Carolina, p. 535a, dwelling 73, 27 Aug 1870:
Mary Greer, 48, keeping house, $260, $500, NC.
      Gaston, 17, working farm, NC.
      Albert, 12, at home, NC.
Elizabeth Shaw, 75, no occupation, NC.
      Elijah Greer, 62, farmer, $2800, $1000, TN.
1880 US: Oldfields, Ashe County, North Carolina, p. 624C, dwelling 23:
Mary A. Greer, 56, NC NC NC.
Elizabeth Shaw, mother, 94, NC NC NC.
The key to proving that Elizabeth was not a Graybill is found in the Death Certificate of Dockter Newton Shaw which states that his parents were Thomas Shaw and Elizabeth Cane. There is no Elizabeth Graybill noted.
