- RESEARCH_NOTES:1. Website http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3sbrn/Benjamin.htm accessed 19 Nov 2011, "Geneology Information - Applegates of Ocean County, New Jersey," prepared by Richard Kuntz, Allenwood, NJ (Updated - 1/2018); source abbreviations are explained on the website:
"John Johnson (Benjamin). There are two individuals named John in Dover during the 1790's that could be the son of Benjamin.
One is recorded in the following will abstract 1797 Jan. 25: Johnston, John of Dover Twsp. Monmouth Co. Int. Adm'r - William Eugene Imlay. Fellowbondsmen - William Lloyd and John Jeffrey; all of said Co. The statistics for (1)John are b. ?, d. 1797.
The second John is recorded in the Dover Census of 1830 with statistics: (2)John b. ca. 1755, d. 1830+ (See remark on 1830 Census included in the material on son, John R.).
The name John Johns(t)on is found in the following lists: 1773 Revolutionary Census, 1779 Dover Ratables, 1783 Dover Tax Lists, and 1790 Monmouth Freeholders List.
The birth date for (2) John is consistant with being a son of Benjamin and at the same time, it is possible that (1) is a brother of Benjamin or from another Johnson family. Consequently until further information becomes available, the assumption will be made that (2) is a son of Benjamin and that (1) is either a brother or a member of a different family.
The following event has been recorded: Rebecca Street (Johnson) a. 61, d. 9/7/1862, b. Kettle Creek, d. Newport, N.C. f. John Johnson, m. Margaret Johnson [Bt]
John Johnson, b. ca. 1755, d. 1830+; m. Margaret Unknown b. ?, d. ? Issue:
-John R. (1786-2/10/1863)
-Joseph I. (1795-12/29/1860); m. (1) (4/30/1828) Letta Brand (1800 - 1/21/1831) (2) (7/7/1831) Letta Algour (1807 - 10/21/1880)
