There are two individuals named John in Dover during the 1790's that could be the son of Benjamin. One is recorded in the following will abstract 1797 Jan. 25: Johnston, John of Dover Twsp. Monmouth Co. Int. Adm'r - William Eugene Imlay. Fellowbondsmen - William Lloyd and John Jeffrey; all of said Co.  The statistics for (1)John are b. ?, d. 1797. The second John is recorded in the Dover Census of 1830 with statistics: (2)John b. ca. 1755, d. 1830+ (See remark on 1830 Census included in the material on son, John R.). The name John Johns(t)on is found in the following lists: 1773 Revolutionary Census, 1779 Dover Ratables, 1783 Dover Tax Lists, and 1790 Monmouth Freeholders List. The birth date for (2) John is consistant with being a son of Benjamin and at the same time, it is possible that (1) is a brother of Benjamin or from another Johnson family. Consequently until further information becomes available, the assumption will be made that (2) is a son of Benjamin and that (1) is either a brother or a member of a different family.
