      1. "Spanish Fork. - Funeral services for Mrs. Jemima (Mima) A. Llewelyn Hales, 71, who died Sunday evening at a local hospital after a five-day illness, will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Fourth Ward chapel by Bishop Arthur Grotegut. Friends may call at the family home, 290 North Second East St., Wednesday after 6 p.m. and Thursday prior to services. Burial will be in Spanish Fork City Cemetery, directed by Claudin Funeral Home. Mrs. Hales was born Dec. 4, 1876, in Spanish Fork, a daughter of Edward and Jemima C. Christmas Llewelyn. She attended Brigham Young University. Her husband, Matthew Hales, died in 1903. A teacher before her marriage, Mrs. Hales returned to the profession and taught 35 years in Spanish Fork. She received her life teachers certificate for the state of Utah. A member of the Spanish Fork library board from the time it was organized until her death. She was also affiliated with the Royal Neighbors of America. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mrs. Hales served as a Sunday School teacher 12 years, as president of the YWMIA for some time and was active in the Relief Society. Survivors include a son, Grant Hales, Spanish Fork; a granddaughter living in California, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Morgan, Spanish Fork." Deseret New, Tues, 2 Mar 1948, p. 19.

Llewelyn Hales, 71, lifelong resident of Spanish Fork, died Sunday evening, at a local hospital of a five days illness. She was born here Dec. 4, 1876, a daughter of Edward and Jemima C. Christmas Llewelyn. She was educated in Spanish Fork public schools and Brigham Young university. She was married to Matthew Hales, who died in 1903. A teacher before her marriage, Mrs. Hales resumed that profession and taught 35 years in the elementary schools of Spanish Fork. During her work as teacher she studied under the extension service of the Brigham Young university, obtaining her life teachers certificate for the state of Utah. Active in civic work and auxiliary branches of the LDS Church, Mrs. Hales served as teacher in the Sunday school for 12 years; was president of the Young Womens's Mutual Improvement Assn. a number of years and was an active member of the Relief society. She was a member of the Spanish Fork library boaard from the time it was organized until her death. She was a member of Sego Lily camp, Royal Neighbors of America, until its union with the Provo camp, 8887, about five years ago. At the time of her death she was member of the Provo camp R.N. of A. She is survived by a son, Grant Hales, Spanish Fork, and a granddaughter living in California; also a sister, Mrs. Florence Morgan, Spanish Fork. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Fourth ward LDS chapel by Arthur Grotegut, bishop. Friends may call at the family home, 290 North 2nd East Wednesday ater 6 p.m. and until time of services Thursday. Burial in Spanish Fork City cemetery will be directed by the Claudin funeral home."
