- RESEARCH_NOTES:
1. There is a tradition of a Deborah Spelman being the wife of our James Barlow. It is true that there was a Deborah Spelman who married a James Barlow; however, that another James Barlow who died 20 Sep 1837 in Granville -- he was a Colonel and Esquire and he died at age 66. He was the son of Edmund Barlow and Sybil Root.
2. Today's Hampden County of Massachusetts was originally Middlesex County until it was split off in 1662 and named Hampshire County. Hampden County was formed from Hampshire County in 1812.
3. James and Elizabeth Barlow had a daughter named Lydia Barlow who was born 31 Mar 1777 in Granville. Apparently James died within a year of this birth.
