1. Today's Hampden County of Massachusetts was originally Middlesex County until it was split off in 1662 and named Hampshire County. Hampden County was formed from Hampshire County in 1812.

1790 US: Granville, Hampshire, Massachusetts:
Samuel Gillet, 1 free white male over 16, 4 free white females all ages.
3. Ancestry.com's "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, 17 Vols.": has the following entry in vol. 6, p. 449, which may be this Samuel since Granville was in Hampshire County at that time: "Samuel Gillet, private, Capt. Aaron Coe's Co., Col. John Moseley's (Hampshire Co.) regt.; enlisted Sept. 21, 1777; discharge Oct. 23, 1777; service, 33 days; company marched by order of Gen. Gates to reinforce Northern army on an alarm."
