    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Most traditional databases use the name of Ezekiel whereas the Brown Family Bible uses John for the same individual. Both agree to a birth in 1775 and a death in 1792. Variants of birth dates are 20 Dec 1775 or 2 Dec 1775; I use the latter since it is in the bible record.

      2. Photostatic typed copy of "Roger Brown's Bible Record" found 2002 in working papers of Enid Willardson after her death with copy on file with me [Elizabeth Gill in the letter is probably Elizabeth Brown who married Francis Gill]:
      "Original Owner: Roger Brown
      Present Owner: Byron E. Brown, R. 2, Laurens, S.C., 29360
      Publisher & Date: Missing
Copied by: Mrs. David P. George, who noted: 'Only part of this Bible remains, including the family record. It was found recently in an old chest. With it was an old letter which was written in 1839 by Elizabeth Gill from Cross Keys, Kentucky and addressed to her stepmother, Mrs. Rebecca Brown, or William Brown or Hardiman Duke (Deeke), Laurens District, S.C. In this letter, Elizabeth Gill wrote of her sister Lydia (evidently the first name in the record), who was living near her, also sister Judah, living in Nashville, Tenn. She asked the whereabouts of brother Jesse. She didn't know whether her stepmother Rebecca Brown was still living.' Family Record:

      3. Not mentioned (due to death before date of will) in father's will per typewritten copy on file of "Will of Roger Brown" found in the research files of Enid Beagley Willardson who is now deceased. It notes: "Copied from the original will of Roger Brown on file in the office of the Judge of Probate for Laurens County, S.C. in Bo No. 4, pkg. No 7." I think there is also a copy of this will in the Laurens County Public Library. Duncan's creek is in the northeast portion of Old Laurens District. It does say it was written in 1810 which is evidently a typo since according to the book "Laurens County, South Carolina Wills, 1784-1840," by Colleen Elliott, p. 177, the will was written in 1818; this makes better sense since some of the children mentioned were born after 1810 through 1817. Same book also mentions "24 Mar 1826. Appraisal of estate of Rodger Brown, dec'd of Laurens Dist. by Thos. Craig, James Farebourn and Moses Leek." The will:

      5. The following private manuscript is not found at the FHL library or on the Internet as of 23 Sep 2012: "The Descendants of John Brown, Sr." Compiler address: 8106 Shoreridge Terr, Indianapolis, IN 46236. Some entries on the Internet make reference to it, but I believe it to be mainly a private compilation; however, I did find an online recapitulation of the manuscript data as prepared in 2001 by Richard M. Leland III (from a copy he received directly from Mr. Volnoggle in Apr 2000) at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lelandva/jbrow004.htm#id5421 and entitled appropriately as "The Descendants of John Brown Sr." (accessed 23 Sep 2012). The data purports John Brown Sr. to be the original immigrant whereas I have Robert Brown. No documentation or contemporary quotes showing the presence of John or how the family grouping is derived are given for these two compilers choice of "John Brown Sr." as the original ancestor. The only sources given for any of the following are James Volnoggle's compilation. The data for the first generation:
