    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. The key to connecting Hannah Kitney to probable parents John Kitney and Mary Buman is from a DNA match in Ancestry.com. A test for Beth (Campbell) White of Canberra, Australia, shows a DNA match to me of the Hales line in the 2nd to 6th cousin relationship with a "high confidence" rating. Comparing our trees, the only surname that matches is Kitney. Her tree shows a fifth generation match to Charles Kitney of Detling, Kent, who married Ann Bennett 10 Apr 1825 in Detling. Beth relates through her mother Florence Sarah Binskin, Florence's father "Private", his mother Sarah Palmer Kitney (wife of William Binskin, m. 28 Nov 1852 at Malling, Kent), daughter of Charles and Ann. Beth's tree ends here, but Family Search extends the family further back.
In Family Search we learn that Charles Kitney was chr. 29 Jun 1806 in De[b]tling to parents James Kidney Elizabeth Down (married 19 Oct 1789 in Detling). James was chr. 16 Oct 1763 to John and Hannah Kidney, which parents had several other children born in the same parish.
Our Kitneys begin with Hannah Kitney who married Henry Hales 11 Apr 1797 in Newington [next Sittingbourn]. Henry was christened in Stockbury 13 Dec 1772 and was then 24 years old when he married. Hannah, if no younger than 19 at the time of marriage and no older than Henry, would have been born from 1772 to 1778. No record of Hannah's christening occurs in Stockbury or Newington. Hannah is buried 5 Mar 1825 in Stockbury and Henry died in Newington 5 Apr 1829. Newington [next Sittingbourn] is the next parish north of Stockbury parish.
In Stockbury, we see the presence of John Kitney and Mary Buman who married 1 Jan 1772 in Hartlip, the next parish to the west of Stockbury and Newington. John is buried 11 Oct 1819 in Stockbury with an age given that calculates to a birth in 1746. The marriage record indicates he is of "Detling," which parish is adjoins Stockbury and Harlip on the southwest. There is a John Kidney chr. in Bredhurst 30 Mar 1746 to John and Hannah Kidney, which could possibly this same John (Bredhurst is the next parish to the east of Detling. Mary Buman appars to be the Mary Buman chr. 26 Jul 1752 in Stockbury to parents Edward and Mary Buman.
The simplest solution to the DNA similarity would be that Hannah Kitney is the daughter of John Kitney and Mary Buman, a possibility that many Hales family has purported in the past without evidence. John is documented to be of Detling which aligns to Beth White's DNA and John and Hannah are both documented in the Stockbury parish. The recorded children of John Kitney and Mary Buman leaves a big gap in the years when Hannah is calculated to have been born.
I further checked Ancestry.com DNA trees for other Kitney matches. Once I removed all the matches coming through the common Hales line, I found one other "S.H" administered by Elizabeth Hughes that had the same match of Sarah Palmer Kitney and William Binskin.

      2. Stockbury shows some Kitney entries. None for our Hannah Kitney. Any relation?:
      - the chr. of John Kitney, son of John and Mary, 2 May 1773.
      - the marriage of John Kitney and Sarah Gilbert, of this parish, 16 Dec 1777. Several children born to this couple.
      - Thomas Kitney of Berstead in Kent and Elizabeth Parks of this parish, m. 6 Feb 1787.
      - William Kitney and Mary Tyler, m. 12 May 1793.
      - Several other Kitneys as well.

      3. Jack Cade's Rebellion of 1450: A Database of Names of those Receiving Pardons, taken from Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry VI 5 (1909) pp. 338-374 accessed from https://familysearch.org. No one listed with the following surnames (or variations thereof): Acock/Alcock, Barret, Chepfield, Dancy, Dennet, Gateland, Hadwin, Hales, Herbert, Hopper, James, Kitney, Marden, Mills, Morskin, Shelly, Sisley, Straine, Upton, and Vande Wall.

      BIRTH:
      1. Nauvoo LDS Land and Records Office research file (copy in my possession as of 2 Jun 2007 and also partially viewable at www.earlylds.com) for Mary Ann Hales. Includes "Nauvoo Baptismal Records for the Dead" showing Mary Ann Hales was baptized in behalf of her mother Hannah Kitney on 9 Dec 1840. The baptism may have occurred in the Mississippi River. The book notes Hannah Kitney, b. 5 Jun 1774 at Rainham, Kent, England, m. Hanery Hales 22 Apr 1797 at Newington, Kent, England, d. 5 Mar 1825 at Stockbury, Kent, England.
I followed up on this and there is no christenings of Hannah Kitneys in Rainham from 1772 to 1776. I also checked Stockbury with the same negative results. The birth data appears erroneous.

      2. 1877 temple work in St. George notes: Hannah Kidney or Kitney, b. 1774 Newington, Kent, England, d. 5 Mar 1825.
I followed up on this as well and there are no christenings for Hannah in Newington from 1770 to 1779. This also appears erroneous.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. FHL film 1736928 Bishop's Transcript of Newington (next Sittingbourne): "27 Apr 1797 - Henry Hales and Hannah Kitney both of this Parish, by Banns."

      BURIAL:
      1. Stockbury Parish records records the burial as 5 Mar 1825 with Hannah Hales, age 51, residing at Rodmersham. See FHL film 1835742 item #1, Bishop's Transcript of Stockbury.
