      CHRISTENING:
      1. Hunton, Kent, England Parish Records online at Family Search or per FHL film 992524, it. 2. Notes John as the son of John Bishopp and his wife Anne. Appears to have been added later and in a different hand.

      2. Family Search's "England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," accessed 12 September 2015, shows the following children christened to John Bishop in Hunton, Kent, England:
Nicholas, son of John and Anne Bishopp, b. Dec 1645, chr. Dec 1645.
John, son of John and Anne Bishopp, b. 4 Nov 1647, chr. 1647. [Probably died bef Dec 1652.]
Thomas, son of John and Anne Bishopp, b. Feb 1649, chr. Feb 1649.
John, son of John and Mary Bishopp, b. 22 Dec 1652, chr. 22 Dec 1652.
William, son of John and Mary Bishopp, b. 22 Nov 1655, chr. 5 Dec 1655.
There are some problems with these entries. They are the only entries in this small parish of Hunton for children of any John Bishop that were christened in the period of 1640 to 1669. The first three children show a mother named Anne; however, the last two show a mother named Mary. Mary has a grave memorial in the same church which reads: "Here lyeth interred Mary, the wife of John Bishopp, gent. who departed this life, the sixth of February in the yeare of our Lord 1659. She left issue Thomas, John, Nicholas, and William." From this memorial, it would seem to indicate that all of the children were Mary's and none were Anne's. This leaves us with a couple of options:
      1. The parish clerk made a clerical mistake in recording the mother as Anne and it should have been Mary.
      2. Anne existed and died sometime after 1649 and before 1652. John subsequently married Mary who raised the earlier children as their step-mother. This option is problematic since the memorial inscription for Mary mentions the word "issue" which would mean "born of her body."
The first option is probably the most likely; however, more research is needed as follows:
      1. Review the actual parish records to verify the above christening records.
      2. Look for the burials of John and Mary. Also a burial for Anne.
      3. Mary's memorial mentions her husband as a "Gentleman." I checked probate for Kent and no John Bishop is found of Hunton except for one in about 1750. There is no Mary Bishop in the probate indices.

      MARRIAGE:

Also, Bennet Bishop, d. Mar. 1, 1707, aged 21 yrs.
