    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Extraction of Bicknor Parish Records (FHL film 1851040, it. 6), Bishop's Transcript (FHL film 1751589, it. 1), and Archdeacon's Transcript (FHL film 1736525, it. 3); records start 1571:
      Family Group:
-2 Nov 1573, William Knyghte an olde inhabitant was buryed.
-8 Dec 1609, Jone Knite widow, an olde inhabitant, bur.
Family Group -- James Knight and two wives Helen [Ellen] ___ and Anne Coullen. James Knight is named as churchwarden from 1611 to 1612:
-6 Jan 1605[/6?], Hellen wife of Jacobi [James] Knyte, bur.
-30 Jun 1605[1606?], "James Knyte and Anne Coullen weare also joygned togeither in Matrimonye"
-6 Oct 1636, James Knight, bur.
-14 Sep 1638, Anne Knight widow of James Knight, bur.
      -Children of the above:
-25 Mar 1607, William s of Jacoby Knyte, bap.
-25 Mar 1610[/11?], Robert s of Jacobi Knite, bap.; 3 Oct 1678, Robert and James Knight, bur. [James was a widower and his burial record is not found in Stockbury with his wife. No other James Knights of Bicknor fit for a burial.]; many baptisms and burials starting 4 May 1646 found in this parish for children of Robert and Elizabeth Knight.
-28 Feb 1612/13, James son of James Knite, bap.; 3 Oct 1678, Robert and James Knight, bur. [James was a widower and his burial record is not found in Stockbury with his wife. No other James Knights of Bicknor fit for a burial.]
-[No record for the daughter Anne was found in the records.]
-4 Apr 1619, Joan d of James Knite, bap.; 25 May 1641, William Morgan and Joan Knight, marr. [The 1 at the end of 1641 has been transcribed by some as a 2, but it is definitely a 1.]
-4 Jan 1623/4, Richard s of James Knight, bap.; 11 Apr 1684, Rich Knight, bur.
      Family Group:
-William Knight named as churchwarden 1616-1617. [No church records found for a William of this time period. Most likely the son William named in William Knight's will of 1573, which makes him the brother of James above.]
Family Group -- Ingeram was chr. 6 Mar 1597 in Hougham to William Knight. He becomes the progenitor of many Knights in Stockbury. He is the son of William the churchwarden above.
-25 Nov 1622, Ingeram Knight and Elizabeth Brenard, mar.
-19 Oct 1623, Marye d of Ingeram Knight, bap.
Family Group: This William is the one bapt. above in 1607 and who married Anne Knight in Hollingbourne in 1642.
-5 Feb 1642/3, Richard s of William Knight and [blank] his wife, bap.
Comments: The fact that William Knight, the churchwarden of 1616-17, was in Bicknor shows an association with the Knights of this parish, who are all closely related. We know from Ingeram's christening record in Hougham that his father was William Knight, which leads us to the conclusion that William the churchwarden is most likely his father since there was no known brother to Ingeram named William. William is most likely the brother of James of Bicknor and the son of the William and Jone as named in his father's will. Ingeram becomes the progenitor of many Knights in Stockbury.

      2. The following extraction was made from the "Index to the Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by H.A. Hanley, B.A. and C.W. Chalklin, M.A., B. Litt <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/7/313.htm> accessed 11 Feb 2016. From this index, the actual entries are found in "The Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5," by the same authors <http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Pub/KRV/18/3/058-172.htm> accessed 12 Feb 2016. The second document more fully explains the history of this Lay Subsity. This was a tax assessed on householders; however, it probably only represents about 50% of the householders since the poorer families were not assessed:
