    • RESEARCH_NOTES:
      1. Typescript "Early Adairs of Laurens County, South Carolina." Compiled by Mildred Brownlee; Source Records: Wills; Intestate Estates; Deeds; Court Records; Cemetery Inscriptions. Some dates of birth and death obtained from Lineage Charts. Dates of birth and death subject to correction. Spelling of names subject to correction. For this particular individual, there is no connection yet proved except for proximity in time and location thru the following record. [Note that bracketed comments are later additions by other reviewers including myself - Kerry Petersen.]:
"At the estate settlement of Samuel Bishop in 1824, one John (x his mark) Adair received a portion of the estate in right of his wife's share. Court of Equity record of 1831 states that Priscilla Bishop, dau.of Samuel Bishop, Jr. and his wife, Verlinda Prather, mar. John Adair and died without issue."
[Comments from Lee Adair [mailto:wadair1@tampabay.rr.com] email of December 03, 2005: "I do not know for sure which John Adair this refers to. The Samuel Bishop who was married to Verlinda Prather died bef. Nov 1805 (see Laurens Co., Will Book C-1, p. 182). It is possible that it took 20 years to settle the estate, since many of the Prathers moved to Georgia and Verlinda may have moved with them. If Samuel and Verlinda had a daughter Priscilla, she would have been born prior to 1805. It is possible then that John Adair, son of Benjamin and Nancy George and b. abt 1785, married twice: first to Priscilla Bishop (who had no children and/or died in childbirth), and second to Nancy Hanna."]
"In Jan. 1830, one John Adair and his wife, Nancy, joined with other heirs of William Hanna in selling land on Duncan Creek. (Deed Bk. M, p. 154.). [Mildred's NB: this is most likely John Adair, son of William and Nancy George Adair. He stayed in Laurens Co., to handle his father's estate before moving with wife Nancy Hanna to Alabama 1830-1840.]
[Comments from Lee Adair [mailto:wadair1@tampabay.rr.com] email of December 03, 2005: "There is an error there. John Adair, son of Benjamin Adair (not William) and Nancy George, married Nancy Hanna."]
