      1. Reviewed 17 Aug 2003 Rootsweb.com Worldconnect.

      2. Need to research whether Mahala Hill and Amanda Hill were sisters. They both married Graybill brothers in Jackson Co., OH and both died in Adams County, IL. Nothing in Family Search nor Worldconnect.

      BIOGRAPHY:
      1. FHL book 929.273 P684pn: "Graybill/Stoker/Eller/Smith/Koons/Pitt Connections," by Norman E. 'Gene' Pitt, 1996, pp. 17-24, note that this book has some downline of the children of this couple: "David Graybill, b. 24 Sep 1812, Jefferson, Ashe, NC; d. 1848, Quincy, Adams Co., IL; md. to Mahala Hill. She was b. abt 1815; d. 1848, Quincy IL; bur Quincy, IL." [Note: I am unsure if they died and were actually buried in Quincy since this same author notes in David's father's biography that the Graybill-Stoker families lived 11 miles southeast of Quincy. Note also that the other Graybills were in Iowa by about 1848 - so they must have come later: see next quote from same book about David's brother, Simeon Peter Graybill, which would seem to confirm both David and Mahala had died in 1848:
"In 1837, Simeon moved from Jackson Co., OH to Caldwell Co., MO. They moved to Adams Co., IL in 1839 and remained there until 1848. Simeon travelled by covered wagon in Dec 1848, bringing his three children and his brother's four children to Kanesville (later named Council Bluffs), IA. His youngest Child, Aaron, was but three years old. Simeon's wife, Amanda, and daughter, Rachel, had recently died in 1848 near Quincy, IL. Simeon's and Amanda's children were Rachel, William A., Andrew Jackson and Aaron George. Simeons's and Frances' children were George Alvin, Emily Jane, Willis Meredith, Amanda M., Almeda and Mary Ellen." [His brother's children must be the children of David and Mahala (Hill) Graybill, both of whom died in 1848. I wonder if both Mahala Hill and Amanda Hill were sisters.]" Note: see notes for David's father Michael Graybill and brother Simeon Peter Graybill for David's children in Iowa in the 1850 census.

      BIRTH:
      1. 1880 Census for three of her sons and 1900 census for one son mentions this individual born in Ohio.

      MARRIAGE:
      1. FHL Film #301,043 "Jackson County, Ohio Marriages 1831-1843" has the following entry in Marriage Book, Vol. B (1831-1843), page 50: "David Graybill to Mahaly Hll, June 11, 1835 (license date). Geo. McAdams performed the marriage 14 Jun 1835. Her name in his certification is rendered "Mahala Hill"

      DEATH:
      1. She may have remarried after death of David Graybill in 1846 but the 1850 and 1860 censuses for her children don't show her which would make one think she may have died before 1850. LDS Family Search Pedigree File compact disc #47, pin #987092 indicates death for her in 1849 in Hope, IL, but without documentation. The date sounds likely but the place sounds possibly unlikely since I believe the Graybills were in Iowa by that date - unless this family stayed on longer in Illinois. The Pitt book quoted above seems to generally agree with a reported death date of 1848 in Quincy, Adams, IL. I use 1848 because of the quote in the Pitt book of David's brother taking his children to Iowa in 1848.
