      1. Henry R. Stiles, "The History and Genealogies of Ancient Windsor, Connecticut," 1892, v. 2, p. 304:
      "Samuel Grant, b. at Dorchester, Mass., 12 Nov 1631; admitted freeman 18 May 1654; 8 Jan 1658/9 the town voted he should 'try and seal measures for the town': two years later he was employed to 'shingle the inside roof of meetinghouse.' When 18 years old he was employed by John Bissell to attend the Connecticut River ferry. In Feb 1674, his father gave him (and his brother John) lands on the east side of 'that river...' They joined the First Church of Windsor in 1685; were members of the East Windsor church in 1700; resided on the little eminence on the bank of the river, in the rear of the Theological Institute, which eminence was the only ground in the meadow which was not covered with water in the great flood of 1638-39... Children of Samuel and Mary (Porter) Grant:
      A. Samuel, b. 20 Apr 1659 at Windsor; m. Windsor 6 Dec 1683 with Anna (or Hannah) Filley, b. Windsor 16 Aug 1664, dau. of Samuel and Anna (Gillet) Filley; sett. in East Windsor where she d. 18 Apr 1686; m. (2) 11 Apr 1688 with Grace Minor, b. at Stonington 20 Sep 1670, dau. of John and Elizabeth Booth Minor. She was a member of Windsor Church 1700; and he owned the Covenant there same year, having previously held the same relation to the First church. He d. 8 May 1710; she d. 16 Apr 1753 in 84th year.
      B. John, b. at Windsor 24 Apr 1664; m. 5 Jun 1690 with Elizabeth Skinner. He d. 19 Jul 1695; estate ₤223, 16s, according to inventory dated 13 Aug 1695. She m. (2) 12 May 1697 with Joshua Welles, Jr., of Windsor, and died 9 Oct 1707. The Court 3 May 1708 appointed Welles 'in right of his late wife, deceased,' as admin. of the estate of her former husband, John Grant, and gave to him her third of it.
      C. Matthew, b. at Windsor 22 Sep 1666; m. Oct 1690 with Hannah Chapman, b. Windsor 3 May 1671, dau. of Edward and Elizabeth (Fox) Chapman. She owned the Halfway Covenant in East Windsor 27 Oct 1700, and he was then a member in full communion. He d. 9 Feb 1734/5 in 68th year. She d. 28 Dec 1752 in 82nd year.
      D. Josiah, b. at Windsor 19 Mar (Dr. Savage says May) 1668; was at East Windsor in 1693; removed 1695 or 1696 to Stonington where he m. 8 Jul 1696 with Rebecca Minor, dau. of Ephraim and Hannah (Avery) Minor, gd.-dau. of Thomas and Grace (Palmer) Minor, and of Capt. James and Joanna (Greenslade) Avery, and g.-gd.-dau. of Walter Palmer and his first wife. They joined the Church in Stonington 27 Aug 1699; he was dismissed 19 Feb 1726/7 to form a church in No. Stonington 22 Feb 1726/7, and she was dismissed 9 Apr 1727 to the same ch., and her name was in a list of its members 27 Dec 1732. He d. 28 Mar 1732; she d. 15 Jan 1746/7 age 75 years.
      E. Nathaniel, b. at Windsor, 14 Apr 1672, m. 12 Oct 1699 with Bethia Warner. They owned the Covenant at East Windsor 25 Aug 1700; were among the earliest settlers at Ell., where they prob. dwelt for several years before May 1734.
      F. Mary, b. at Windsor 23 Jan 1675/6; m. 13 Mar 1694, with Joseph Skinner, Jr. of Windsor.
      G. Sarah, b. at Windsor 19 Jan 1678/79; bap. 2 Feb 1678/79; 'Dyed.'"
